The Inca Trail is developed in a still existing part of the connection roads of the Inca Empire, and at the time, has covered over 5000 km from Quito to Talca.
The Qhapac Nan (royal way) allowed the Inca control its empire moved its troops from the capital Cuzco. Along these roads sometimes stone paved, you can still see remnants of shelters, guard posts and bridges...
Located at a height between 800 and 5000 meters, this monumental road, which can reach 20 meters wide, linked populated areas, administrative centers, agricultural and mining areas and places of worship. The Chasquis, messengers on foot, then they could, through an efficient relay, carrying information at incredible speed.
The portion of Qhapac Nan you visit in those 4 days allows us to realize the greatness of the work during the Inca Empire despite the important destruction from Spanish conquistadors to build modern buildings with many of the stones found.
Program
Day 1: BAÑOS O RIOBAMBA - ACHUPALLAS
We leave the city of Banos to Riobamba at 10:00 hours in the morning, from there continue to the city of Alausí, and finally the village of Achupallas.
Lunch on the way. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day 2: INCA TRAIL
Breakfast. We start from Achupallas, and headed by two mountains, one is Callana Pucara and the other Mapahuiña, along the banks of Cadrul river, by the way used by the Incas, to the lagoon of Tres Cruces.
Box lunch on the way. Second camp. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day 3: INCA TRAIL
Breakfast. We start from the Tres Cruces lagoon descend to Lake Culebrillas, through Santzahuin lagoon, watching the path of the Incas in the gorge Espindola, then pass by the ruins of Paredones.
Box lunch on the way. Third camp. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day 4: INCA TRAIL - INGAPIRCA
Breakfast. In the morning, hike to Ingapirca and visit the most important Inca ceremonial site of Ecuador. End of the program in Ingapirca. From there it will be possible to take a bus to Riobamba or Cuenca.

Practical advices
This hike takes place with mules and muleteers. There isn’t any possibility of assistance by vehicle; the shipment will be limited to a minimum.
Helpful tips:
Having a good physical condition. Once on site, we will not have options of assistance.
In addition, an excellent altitude acclimatization is essential, we will camp overnight at altitudes between 4000 and 4200 meters.
Mules cannot carry an excessive load, we must avoid needlessly charge us.
Minimum requirement:
- Change for the night (1 trousers 1 sweater or jacket, dry socks and shirts that you will have traveling with the mule during the day)
- 1 pair of socks and shirts to change per day (if frequent rains)
- Poncho for rain and waterproof pants in case of rain
We will give you a box lunch which includes: sandwich, crackers or candy, fruit, chocolate bar and a half liter of energy drink.
If you need more quantity of liquid during the day, it will be possible to fill your extra bottle in any of the rivers that cross our path. In that case, should bring sanitizing tablets as "Micro Pur"
