The Altar is located in the Sangay National Park. This is an extinct volcano in the shape of a horseshoe, with a glacier and vertiginous walls descending until the crater.
This is one of the most challenging mountains in Ecuador. Altar, this name was given by the Spaniards who first stepped on. Each peak has its name, from north to south we have: El Canónigo, Los Frailes, El Sagrario, La Monja Menor, La Monja Mayor, and El Obispo (5320 m). From the valley of Collanes, the volcano view is spectacular and beautiful.
This walk takes place with mules and carriers. No assistance vehicle will be possible, the cargo should be the minimum, just as horses or mules cannot carry an excessive burden, once in place, we will have no easy transport options.
In addition, an excellent acclimatization to the altitude is essential, camp overnight at altitudes between 4000 and 4100 meters.
The daily box lunch for hiking will be prepared as follows: sandwiches, crackers and cookies, fruit, chocolate bar and an energy drink.
